About this artwork
This oil painting is the second of a series of Sandhill Crane art depicting a Nebraska Windmill and two Cranes. The first of the series was similar except the wings and windmill were different. This artwork long hours to paint because of the detail needed. The photo is very true to the original. Where I live six in Central Nebraska, there are six hundred thousand Sandhill Cranes come to the Platte River from the last week of February to the end… of March, some stay a week into April as well. They Feed in the local fields and rest on the Islands of the Platte River at night. I've been photographing them for over thirty years and use my own photography to create my paintings. - Russell Hansen
