« Competing inclinations to build up or tear down, to under or over-inform, to be specific or random, balanced or off-kilter - anything in between - it’s all fair game. »
Russell Shoemaker is an American artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited in the United States. He describes his works as memorializing "memory noise" through piecing together compositions and working from disparate, but still personally significant, reference points. Shoemaker likens this process to trash collecting in the bushes of his brain,
unintelligible, nonlinear, and scattered, but building an image and shape, which then forms into a lexicon. For him, lexicons are symbolic in his abstract narratives.
