About this artwork
This drawing explores emotional presence through reduction rather than detail. Working in graphite on paper, I focused on contrast, pressure, and gesture to suggest form without fully resolving it.
The face emerges partially from shadow, allowing areas of absence to carry as much weight as the visible features. Loose, directional marks remain intentionally raw, emphasizing feeling over likeness and inviting the viewer to complete the image through… their own perception.
Rather than functioning as a traditional portrait, this work reflects an interior state — a moment of pause, vulnerability, and quiet awareness suspended between clarity and concealment.
Ryan Beal is a contemporary visual artist whose background in fine arts entrepreneurship and aviation deeply informs his work. He primarily works with acrylics and mixed media creating layered atmospheric compositions that explore presence movement and emotional depth. His intuitive process allows each piece to evolve organically guided by feeling rather than rigid structure.
Ryan’s artistic philosophy centers on mindfulness and the power of the present moment. He describes his approach as "wild reverence" the balance between calm and energy stillness and motion. Through texture light and subtle movement his work invites viewers to slow down breathe and reconnect with themselves.
As a business owner student pilot and father Ryan draws constant inspiration from lived experience shared moments with his family and the shifting perspectives found in both flight and everyday life. His art is not meant to be simply observed but felt offering a quiet space for reflection and connection.
