About this artwork
Taken in South Ethiopia, I was first pulled in by the geometry of the hair, but what held me was the composure of the face beneath it. The braids, beads, and layered adornment felt carefully built, almost architectural, yet the expression remained still and self-possessed. For me, the portrait became less about style alone and more about the way identity can be shaped, worn, and carried with complete certainty.
