About this artwork
Pills and God have a common charisma: givers and takers of life. Weather it's a hospital or a place of whorship, I get the same vibes. "Solace" is an artwork portraying this confusion that I share with many. I molded and casted my mother's prayer hands and used the pills prescribed by my doctors to point out the contradiction between science and faith, yet I needed both back in the day to survive and get through my drug addiction.
The pills used… in my "Solace" series go through an 11 step coating process i've developed to ensure the pills don't interact with weather elements. They are tested by being dropped in a cup of water for 30 minutes to observe if they dissolve or stay intact.

Saif Chilmiran is an emerging painter based in the United Arab Emirates who has exhibited his work internationally. Influenced by his experiences growing up with the multicultural underground Punk scene of the late 90s, he seeks to visually depict his observations of denial of reality and candy-covered culture. He taps into a range of themes in his work, from environmental topics to conceptual ideas.
