About this artwork
The painting was inspired by words and montaged images, a figure is visible whilst camouflaged within it. It incorporates layers and stencilled forms and was made in response to the theme 'What is the Point'. It started as an exploration of a way of getting from one starting point to another point by random connections. Using word association. The resulting painting is the point reached:

Sal Jones' works reinterpret the stereotypical portrait. The U.K. based artist, who has extensively exhibited nationally, suggests a story or emotional state through color, mark-making, expression, and titles. Jones often employs fictional characters, film references, and images that may seem familiar as a commentary on contemporary life. Working with photography is a starting point for her artistic process, she paints directly onto canvas, building up layers from washes and texture, as well as combining brushwork with a palette knife.
