About this artwork
Two types of charcoal are interwoven in this minimalist oil painting. The artist created charcoal from from Trump’s "Art of the Deal" book, and from a McDonald's Big Mac (Trump's favorite food when he was in the White House) . The vertical stripes recall Trump's border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. Although political, the painting is inspired by Bridget Riley's stripe paintings, Op Art, and the minimalism of Agnes Martin.

All of these things are game for me. »
Sally K. Smith is an experienced painter from the United States whose works have been exhibited in solo and group shows nationally. Her background in music as a concert pianist influences how she approaches her artistic practice; she sees her work as a passage of time, not unlike listening to a Bach prelude. Working in oil paints and charcoal, Smith creates abstract and imaginary landscapes inspired by the world around her, committing to either bright color palettes or stark minimalism.
