About this artwork
The Delirium series is my reflection on a collective mental illness. The world turned upside down and went crazy, lost its integrity, we lost freedom of movement, and as a result, freedom of choice. Therefore, the heroes of my paintings in this series literally split into pieces, lose perspective and human appearance, fragments of bodies remain from them, they lose their heads and a mask or an animal's head appears in its place, because isolation…
in many of us has awakened primitive instincts aimed at survival. Delirium is a borderline state on the threshold of insanity. That's how I felt the epidemic and the events provoked by it. But my characters are still restrainedly melancholic and accept what they cannot change.

« The worst thing which can happen to an artist is when they find their style. You found it - you are dead. Why do you need to hurry? »
Salomeya Bauer is an artist, documentary director and queer activist, hailing from the Caucasus region, where she delves into the intricate facets of human nature through her creative works.
Fascinated by anthropology and mythology, she studies folklore in search of new significance for her artworks. In her works, Bauer pays close attention to the poses and gestures of her subjects, portraying frozen moments, 'interrupted by a static canvas'. She is passionate about oil, watercolour, coloured pencils, using traditional materials in her work and interpreting its in a contemporary way.
