About this artwork
I painted Evening on The Strand, London a few years ago, near the beginning of my art journey. It’s inspired by a composition by Michael Alford, whose work I admire, though I changed some of the figures, lighting and atmosphere to create my own interpretation. I love the warm glow and lively spirit of a London evening. This is a view of The Strand in London, outside the iconic Wellington pub, looking out in the direction towards Charing Cross station.… A familiar, comforting street scene. To me, this painting radiates a cozy, vibrant energy, a snapshot of everyday magic and urban charm.
Samir Farah is a Lebanese British artist whose work explores themes of atmosphere and human presence in both urban and natural landscapes. Drawing inspiration from impressionism and post-impressionism, his paintings capture fleeting atmospheric moments, whether in a bustling city street or a quiet horizon.
A long career in international news exposed Samir to the world’s turbulence, but art became his way of holding onto its beauty. Painting offered a shift in focus, from reporting on crises to celebrating energy, connection, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. His work embraces a sense of timelessness, where light, colour and gesture bring scenes to life in a way that feels both familiar and enduring, and conveying more than realism ever could.
Ultimately, Samir’s art is about atmosphere and presence. Each painting is an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and to rediscover the poetry of everyday life.
