About this artwork
The silent eloquence of a moment shared between two people, my parents around 1955, at the very beginning of a journey that would last over 60 years. My interpretation is brimming with my own personal emotional link, and with objects I still recognise from my childhood - the rotary telephone, the umbrella stand, and the old impressionistic painting on the wall...
Crafted in acrylic, I use a cool, muted palette to contrast with their leaning towards… each other. This artwork is a poignant reminder of the quiet strength found in us even when we don't (yet) know it.
Samir Farah is a Lebanese British artist whose work explores themes of atmosphere and human presence in both urban and natural landscapes. Drawing inspiration from impressionism and post-impressionism, his paintings capture fleeting atmospheric moments, whether in a bustling city street or a quiet horizon.
A long career in international news exposed Samir to the world’s turbulence, but art became his way of holding onto its beauty. Painting offered a shift in focus, from reporting on crises to celebrating energy, connection, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. His work embraces a sense of timelessness, where light, colour and gesture bring scenes to life in a way that feels both familiar and enduring, and conveying more than realism ever could.
Ultimately, Samir’s art is about atmosphere and presence. Each painting is an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and to rediscover the poetry of everyday life.
