About this artwork
In Greek mythology, Jocasta , also rendered Iocaste (Ancient Greek: Ἰοκάστη Iokástē [i.okástɛː]) and also known as Epicaste (/ˌɛpɪˈkæstiː/; Ἐπικάστη Epikástē), was a daughter of Menoeceus, a descendant of the Spartoi Echion, and queen consort of Thebes. She was the wife of first Laius, then of their son Oedipus
in the Greek mythology, she commits suicide after finding out she had children with her own child Oedipus, in this painting there is a question… around rather or not she is dead ,did she already over dose from alcohol and drugs , is she just passed out or sleeping,
The painting shows abundance and is maybe a little bit an overdose in itself but as an abundance of empty bottles pill jars, the knife aimed at the figure, and the spilled glass of wine which can symbolize the waste of a life and bloodshed.
I made this painting while I was still a tourist in Paris, and i would come for short visits when I could, it was one of my first figurative nudes in France ever painted.
