About this artwork
"Despite the social misalignment" expresses the difficulty I have in feeling comfortable with my contemporaries. Like seeing one's face in a mirror, something doesn't seem to fit; the constituent elements are nevertheless present but out of step with what they should be. Is it me or are others who "don't fit"?
From questioning comes doubt, which leads to fear and leads to weariness, fatigue or despair, but also the desire to improve, to find one's… place or to create one; a coin toss where chance pretends to be completely in control to better make us forget that it is not quite in control.
Samuel Salel expresses himself through acrylic paint, Indian ink, ballpoint pen illustration, and living mineral painting, drawing on a rich training and an eclectic career spanning graphic design and art schools. He combines abstraction, surrealism, and figuration, multiplying universes and sometimes merging several techniques in a single work. He explores the themes of existence, alchemy, and imaginary mythologies, infusing his creations with a poetic tension between chaos and construction, each time revealing the enigmatic beauty of organic processes and happy accidents.
