About this artwork
Here I explored the theme of "bee deaths," using the fictional bee from the comic Maya the Bee universe. She has to wear a mask to survive! Her characteristic black and yellow stripes have also suffered, which I represent using felted wool. The entire figure is made of 100% felted wool and is attached to a canvas on its back using acrylic adhesive. The surface of the canvas is also decorated with felted wool.
Sandra Fritz is a versatile artist who combines painting, drawing, and three-dimensional sculpture with wool needle felting. She studied at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design and has received three art prizes. Her technique is characterized by a serial, intuitively driven creative process, in which she creates surreal liminal spaces and impossible landscapes imbued with emotions and memories. Her works invite viewers to experience intensity, contemplation, and childlike curiosity, reflecting a broad spectrum of themes. It is always evident that she approaches her subjects thoroughly and analytically. Subsequently, unconscious currents take over the creative process. Some of her paintings are held in public collections, while others are in private collections, for example, in Tenerife and Sicily.
