"Reflections" is a very special painting for me. It was the first large-format work I painted after a very dark period in my life, and you can see how much color was yearning to be released back then. From left to right, it gets lighter, from green and blue through red to yellow. Sandra Krämer, born in 1986, lives and works in Remshalden near Stuttgart. She came to painting without formal art training, during a difficult period in her life when words were no longer enough. She taught herself her craft: acrylics, texture paste, plaster, pouring, and sometimes real gold leaf. Her paintings are created layer by layer; many feature reliefs that are only truly visible in raking light.
She is known for her series "Beach Waves": waves and sea spray that literally leap out of the canvas. Alongside this, she creates large abstract works such as "Reflections" and luminous pieces under black light.
Her artist name, Carmalea, is a combination of her children's names. In 2024, her works were featured in group exhibitions in Venice, Basel, Zug, Zurich, Athens, and Palma.
