The artist painted this image of her friend. She was intrigued by how her friend has a public and a private persona. There are parts of her personality that she is unafraid to show, and other parts that she hides. The artist explores the genre of double-exposure photography to make reference images that capture her ideas. This oil painting was executed in a classical technique. known as grisaille. Then she glazed the colors on top to create a multidimensional effect. What might at first appear to be a flat color is actually many transparent layers of color layered upon each other. The jewel-like color is the result of this labor-intensive process.
