About this artwork
This piece is made from madder that has been processed from root to dye to pigment in the studio and combined with oil to make a hand made oil paint. It is part of the From The Earth to the Sea Collection made using pigments that have a relationship to the south West Coast of England. There is evidence that madder has been imported through the small sea ports in this area for hundreds of years. Madder creates a series of colours from pink to bright…
red, and is evidence of cross cultural and material exchange from the South West of England and continental Europe. the Colours are beautiful, soft and almost bodily. This work was painted on Arches huile paper which is a 300gsm 100%cotton rag paper designed to receive oil paint. It is varnished with a UV protective varnish .The work has beautiful deckled edges, and is currently unframed.
