Series: Emotional Oasis
Surrounded is an artwork that captures my exploration of the intricate relationships between individuals and their environments. As I created this piece, I wanted to convey the feelings of both comfort and confinement that can arise from being enveloped by one’s surroundings. This duality reflects my own experiences of feeling supported yet sometimes overwhelmed by the world around me.
In this artwork, I employed a blend… of soft and bold colours to evoke the contrasting emotions of safety and restriction. The layers and textures in the artwork represent the various influences that shape our lives—family, friends, culture, and societal expectations. Each element symbolises how these factors can either nurture our growth or create a sense of entrapment. While working on this piece, I reflected on how our surroundings can profoundly impact our emotions and sense of self.
