About this artwork
'Scarlet Mountain' is part of a series experimenting with emblematic form and colour. The palette and subject matter is primarily instinctive. The Mountain series formed spontaneously, inspired by a recent documentary on the symbolic power of the Pyramid Symbol. It is ancient and yet current, we are connected to nature in no closer way than the awe-inspiring image of the great mountain. The work, however, can be seen as either abstract or naturalistic…
depending on the viewer. The colours take it away from realism and into a different realm of imagination. The theme of the mountain also presents us with the timelessness of nature versus society. The impermanence of our own existence in comparison to the ancient mountain.
