About this artwork
Anouk is a modern rustic wall sculpture made from cherry, mahogany, walnut, pine, ebony, rosewood and other woods. It also features found objects such as table tops, mantles, plastic, screws, support brackets and wood blinds. Some of the original paints and stains have been left. I also incorporated some new acrylic paint. The materials in this piece span over 80 years. The surface of the piece shows scratches, saw marks and other textures.
While… this piece features rustic materials, as with all my work, I strive to make the work modern and contemporary. There is a definite architectural structure to the piece, so much so that it almost feels De Stijl with the array of vertical and horizontal straight lines. The result is a piece that is modern and elegant with an underlying organic rawness or heaviness to it. Additionally, the composition and lines feel Native American, perhaps reminiscent of a spiritual item like a feather.
Finally, the name Anouk means "Grace"

Scott Troxel is an award-winning American artist whose pieces have been exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Though he describes his art as non-objective, it explores concepts relating to age and time. In addition, the idea of futurism, mid-century modernism, Art Deco, and timeless aesthetics, all find a place within Troxel's work. He employs both new and repurposed materials, as well as man-made mediums such as plastic, combined with century-old wood.
