About this artwork
BlueBird is an elegant modern and minimalist contemporary wall sculpture. It is constructed with birch panels, acrylic and latex washes with a satin lacquer clear coat finish. It is completed with a gray MDF backer. The paint washes allow some of the wood grain to show through the paint and creates an almost marble-like appearance as the warm brown wood grain shows through the gradient white, navy and Bermuda blue tones. Bluebird is a piece that…
focuses on the movement of the composition, balance, and form by using this limited color palette. As with all my work, the piece straddles line between mid century modernism and retro futurism. The finish is slightly distressed which adds the feeling of age to the piece. The name was inspired by the Blue Jay birds that frequent my backyard in the summer. I am inspired by the overly graphic look and lines of these birds, as if they were almost designed by a human hand.

« I am a wood sculpture artist obsessed with form, balance, and composition in a formalist and modernist manner, working predominately with wood as a medium. »
Scott Troxel is an award-winning American artist whose pieces have been exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Though he describes his art as non-objective, it explores concepts relating to age and time. In addition, the idea of futurism, mid-century modernism, Art Deco, and timeless aesthetics, all find a place within Troxel's work. He employs both new and repurposed materials, as well as man-made mediums such as plastic, combined with century-old wood.
