About this artwork
Sled" is a modern rustic wall sculpture. It was made in a similar fashion to an abstract expressionist painting, where the process of creating the piece is not predetermined, but is a result of the process of creating.
I love to make pieces that can be at once rustic and modern. Sled incorporates repurposed materials such as 70 year old cherry wood from a dining table, oak, ebony, pine, maple, mahogany, plastic and poplar. Some of the materials… have been left as-is with the original stain. Other pieces have been modified or enhanced with new stain and oil. Finally Acrylic paint accents complete the piece.
The result is a very interesting and bold statement piece for a room which commands attention. The name "Sled" came to me as I was working on the piece. It could be the shape slightly resembles a sled or it perhaps could be a metaphor for the emotional weight that we pull around with us everyday. I will let you decide what the piece means to you, as the viewer.

Scott Troxel is an award-winning American artist whose pieces have been exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Though he describes his art as non-objective, it explores concepts relating to age and time. In addition, the idea of futurism, mid-century modernism, Art Deco, and timeless aesthetics, all find a place within Troxel's work. He employs both new and repurposed materials, as well as man-made mediums such as plastic, combined with century-old wood.
