About this artwork
The painting depicts a human figure suspended in an aerial, almost dancing gesture, within a mesh of angular shapes and fiery colors. The blue body, stretched in a broad movement, stands out against a background bursting with reds, oranges, and yellows that accentuate the dramatic tension. The geometric lines, sometimes straight, sometimes oblique, reinforce this impression of contained imbalance, as if everything could tip over at any moment.
… Through this work, I wanted to convey the fragility of human balance, constantly threatened by the opposing forces that surround it. The character's posture, oscillating between falling and mastery, embodies this quest for harmony in a fragmented world. The bright, contrasting colors then become the expression of inner tensions, but also of the vital energy that allows us to stand upright.
Serge Dumez, a painter and draftsman, began his artistic career with pencil drawing and pastel. His technique fuses the elegance of drawing and the vivacity of pastel, manifesting a predilection for deconstructed representations through cubism. By exploring human relationships in his works, Dumez conveys deep feelings and complex ideas.
