About this artwork
Being immersed in a particular landscape can create a sense of connection that I try to rediscover in the studio. I travel to places such as the Thames foreshore and coasts of Cornwall and Kent and revel in exposure to weather, expansive skies, tides and turbulent water. When working I am trying to find a visual metaphor for the sensation of momentum and shifting light, rather than depict a particular place.

« In this age of instant gratification and constant distraction, it’s not easy… but I want to be fully present in a process where intuition, creativity, and subconscious can take over. »
Sharon Drew's paintings are an exploration of the abstract qualities of light, rhythm, repetition, and movement that she discovers through landscapes. The UK-based artist travels to the shores of the Thames and the coasts of Cornwall and Kent, reveling in 'exposure to weather, expansive skies, as well as tides and turbulent waters'. Drew makes outdoor sketches in oils and watercolors that help her observe the moment. She uses these impressions as visual metaphors when painting in her studio.
