About this artwork
Shawn Kolodny’s metallic sphere totem sculptures are works that merge the organic with the industrial. Crafted from polished steel, these spherical structures are meticulously shaped and often feature intricate textures or hues that evoke a sense of both fluidity and strength. These pieces invite contemplation, offering a dialogue between the natural world and the mechanical, bridging past, present, and future through their strikingly modern yet…
timeless appearance.

Shawn Kolodny is a prolific contemporary sculptor whose work explores the possibilities of geometric forms and chromatic colors. Best known for his repeated use of spheres and reflective surfaces, Kolodny creates seductive sculptures with industrial materials and pristine finishes that question our perceptions of balance, fragility, and permanence. His work reveals the tension between what appears solid and what is truly stable.
Born and raised in New York, Kolodny draws on a background in hospitality and industrial design to infuse his sculptural practice with a sharp awareness of consumer culture. Though deeply formal, Kolodny’s work is also intensely personal. His process is intuitive and performative, informed by a lifelong negotiation with risk, repetition, discipline, and control.
