About this artwork
‘Luces’ explores the dialogue between artificial and natural light and the ways they interact within a single moment. The composition was inspired by a photograph I took locally at sunset; I was immediately captivated by the sharp, linear silhouette of the building cutting across the brilliance of the sky.
I imagined the petal-like forms emanating from the setting sun—its energy radiating outward—guiding the viewer’s eye downward along the direction… of the road. I also wanted the sky to push forward in the composition, almost becoming part of the foreground. On the left side, I applied thick layers of paint over the trees, allowing them to merge into a single mass so that atmosphere, light, and form blend together.
