About this artwork
Mackerel Oil Painting.
I did his painting on wood - mainly because of its unusual shape - It took a fair bit of work, this year I will do some prints from it - I eventually got it framed with museum glazing. It looked very grand indeed. I have now started a Red Snapper only because of the lovely reds. My aim though is to a local Trout. To do a fish painting justice you need a fresh fish - the colours n any fish straight out of the water are very… magical, they disapear very quickly once caught or contained.

Simon Royer is a prizewinning British painter who has exhibited his work in London. His primary medium is oil painting, and he takes inspiration from the natural world- particularly marine and aquatic environments- and is fascinated by species, ecologies and habitats. Combining meticulous craftsmanship with a sense of playfulness, he composes works that sit at the intersection of realism and abstraction and cause viewers to second-guess first appearances.
