About this artwork
In "the woman in sari", I explore the paradox of freedom within boundaries — a woman poised in eternal movement, captured inside a gilded frame. Draped in deep crimson and gold, she embodies tradition, resilience, and grace — a spirit that refuses to be silenced by the walls that hold her.
This piece mirrors my ongoing dialogue with confinement and beauty. The opulence of gold meets the quiet erosion of decay, symbolizing how strength endures even… as the world attempts to contain it. To me, she represents every woman who learns to dance within her limits, transforming walls into mirrors of her own light.
Part of my Golden Walls Series, Framed in Gold is not merely an image, but a meditation on transcendence — on how we redefine our spaces and reclaim the narratives that once confined us. Painted in oil and gold, it is both a reflection and a rebellion, a whisper that even in stillness, the spirit continues to move.
Sofi Gaya, trained as a visual artist after a career in medicine, creates vibrant works primarily in oil, experimenting with inks, gold leaf, spray paint, markers, and acrylics. Her technique centers around expressive, dance-filled female figures, unfolding in series that mix interaction with nature and autobiography, infused with Sufi mysticism. Through bold color and fluid motion, she vividly conveys joy, hope, feminine empowerment, and a profound ease—inviting viewers into a world bursting with love, freedom, and radiant self-expression.
