About this artwork
This artpiece was born from my quiet strength: from what grows underneath before it becomes visible. I called it "Subterranean Feminine" because it speaks about the power that rises from within, slowly, silently, until it transforms everything. It continues my exploration of lyrical abstraction as a language of emotion and memory. Through layers of texture, color, and transparency, I wanted to express the hidden force of the feminine — not as protest,…
but as presence. I’m drawn to contemporary gestural abstraction with a distinctly feminine phenomenology. It’s not about mastering the canvas, but engaging in a dialogue with it. As an AKOUN-listed artist with international exhibitions in Berlin, Barcelona, Braga, and Verona, and recipient of the 2025 European Artist Award in Venice,my work continues to attract growing recognition and collector interest across Europe.

Sonia J. is a contemporary abstract painter whose work operates beyond the white cube. Her practice explores large-scale abstract painting through repetition, vertical rhythm, and material restraint, creating works with strong architectural and symbolic presence.
