About this artwork
In this work, I have captured the magic of the red sun setting over Capri. With soft, warm hues that move across the sea in gentle, reddish-golden shimmering waves. A feeling of peace, gratitude, and longing for distant lands. Joy at being able to be in this place. Only in summer does the fiery red sun set directly behind Capri. I watch this spectacle from the Cilento coast. People gather on the shores, filled with bliss; this peaceful atmosphere… is balm for all souls.
Sonja Kalmanfi dedicates her artistic work with extraordinary consistency to the Cilento region in southern Italy. For her, the national park is not only a subject, but also a habitat, a source of inspiration, and an emotional point of reference. She lived there for extended periods, returns regularly, and exhibits her work there. Within contemporary landscape painting, it thus occupies a special position. Light, color, and atmosphere become vehicles for memory, feeling, and inner states. The landscape appears not merely as a representation of a place, but as a reflection of personal experience. In her works, coastlines, mountains, villages, and vegetation merge with the artist's inner world. Color becomes an emotional medium. The result is works of quiet intensity and sensual melancholy that lead the viewer to the border between dream and reality, inviting a deeper encounter with nature and their own perception.
