About this artwork
"Convento Francescano" in Cuccaro Vetere, Cilento, dates back to 1333. This Franciscan monastery has been revived and blends seamlessly into the stunning Cilento hinterland. For me, it is an impressive place of silence, of the past, of Christianity. In this work, I have captured the quiet grandeur of the monastery at night using acrylics. The impressionistic brushstrokes lend the scene a mysterious, almost magical atmosphere, radiating peace and… devotion. It is intended to put the viewer in a peaceful mood and convey the feeling that even in darkness, light and hope shine. This painting brings warmth and depth to any room. There are not many places like this left.
Sonja Kalmanfi is a painter with German-Italian roots who creates her work on canvas and paper using pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Her work is impressionistic and romantic, skillfully moving between realism and abstraction, masterfully capturing light, color, and moods. Her works convey a sensual melancholy and invite the viewer to connect deeply with nature and one's inner self at the threshold between dream and reality. She chose the Cilento National Park in Italy as her setting and source of inspiration, where she spends significant periods of the year.
In her paintings, the landscapes and views of this country merge with the artist herself, her inner self, her experience.
