About this artwork
This image was exhibited in 2025 in the exhibition "L'anima del Paesaggio" at the Museum Diocesano Arborense in Oristano, Sardinia.
"The fisherman begins his work at dawn. The stillness and the light of the early morning capture the moment, hold me captive, and I sense this wonderful place of inspiration. I am here at Punta Licosa for a long time. The blue hour is my favorite light. It invites dreams and has a healing effect on the soul, far removed… from all the hustle and bustle of the world. Later in the day, the fisherman tells me that he caught nothing this morning, but that's not the point; he, too, enjoys the stillness of the morning. The stillness by the sea at Cape Sirens, where a legendary seafarer once sailed by."

Sonja Kalmanfi is a painter who creates her art on canvas and paper using pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Her work is impressionistic and romantic, skillfully moving between realism and abstraction, masterfully capturing light, color, and moods. Her works convey a sensual melancholy and invite viewers to connect deeply with nature and their own inner selves at the threshold between dream and reality. She primarily uses the Cilento National Park in Italy as her setting and source of inspiration, where she spends time regularly. In her paintings, the landscapes of this country merge with the artist herself, her inner self, her experience. Sonja has a unique form of color perception. Behind every number, a color appears for her (e.g., 5 = midnight blue), a form of synesthesia in which sensory impressions merge. This intuitive perception shapes her artistic work.
