About this artwork
In this work, I captured the dense energy of the undergrowth with soft pastels, the transition between winter and spring, blossoms still hidden in the undergrowth. The abstract, impressionistic structures reflect the mysterious interplay of light and shadow that lives in hidden thickets. It radiates a vibrant, almost magical atmosphere and brings the untamed power of nature into every home, a living breath of wild beauty and tranquility at the same… time, a glimmer of hope.
HALBE frame, 50 x 40 cm. Frosted, non-reflective glass, image area 30 x 21 cm.
Sonja Kalmanfi is a painter who creates her art on canvas and paper using pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Her work is impressionistic and romantic, skillfully moving between realism and abstraction, masterfully capturing light, color, and moods. Her works convey a sensual melancholy and invite viewers to connect deeply with nature and their own inner selves at the threshold between dream and reality. She primarily uses the Cilento National Park in Italy as her setting and source of inspiration, where she spends time regularly. In her paintings, the landscapes of this country merge with the artist herself, her inner self, her experience. Sonja has a unique form of color perception. Behind every number, a color appears for her (e.g., 5 = midnight blue), a form of synesthesia in which sensory impressions merge. This intuitive perception shapes her artistic work.
