About this artwork
According to the biblical story, Moses was commissioned on Mount Sinai to build a portable sanctuary according to a precise heavenly description. "And see that you make everything according to their design, which is shown to you on the mountain." (Exodus 25:31-39, Luther Bible) During a long summer walk on the Curonian Spit in Lithuania, I saw this tree on a hill, the only one standing out from the dense undergrowth. Its shape reminded me strongly… of the menorah, also known as the seven-branched candelabra. As if prearranged and to reinforce my association, at that moment, rows of cloud arms formed in the sky. I captured this sight in the picture.
