About this artwork
A yellowed, historic black-and-white photograph of standard roses along a path inspired me to paint this picture and add color. The rose heads—although they grow from different standard roses and bloom in different colors—form a horizontal, S-shaped, meandering line that gives the picture its own rhythm. The eye follows this line, lingers on individual blossoms, then follows the sandy path into the wooded park, which disappears into the blurred forest.… Movement and tranquility for the eye, detail and a broader view alternate, delighting the owner of the picture from then on.
Sophia Maeno, who comes from a family of musicians, works with drawing, acrylic, and oil paint, drawing inspiration from both her musical and artistic training. She prefers representational motifs and allows free choice of techniques and materials in the process, giving each work its own unique expression. Her paintings capture touching, humorous, or quiet scenes from everyday life, imbued with emotional depth and the elemental beauty between humanity and nature. Through her art, she aims to convey the inexhaustible power and human fire of the creative spirit.
