About this artwork
Accalmie is a work that captures the very essence of calm and quietude. This painting, done in oil on linen canvas, exudes a palpable serenity through a subtle palette of neutral and soothing tones. The square format of 60 x 60 cm contributes to the perfect balance of the composition, where the horizontal lines seem to invite the viewer to deep contemplation.
The artist plays with textures and nuances, creating an almost tactile surface that evokes… minimalist landscapes and vast desert expanses. Each brushstroke is deliberate, adding a dimension of depth and inner silence to the work. "Accalmie" is an invitation to introspection, a visual pause in the tumult of everyday life.
The subtlety of the colours - from soft beiges to nuanced greys, punctuated by a discreet touch of off-white - reinforces the idea of a silent harmony, of a moment suspended outside of time.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
