In the Distance, the Sea offers a poetic and refined vision of the shore. Soft shades of gray, beige, and blue blend in a play of horizontal layers, evoking the changing light and profound calm of a marine horizon.
The fine horizontal lines, punctuated by rare touches of red, punctuate the composition like… scattered signs of a human or natural presence in the distance. The knife gesture reveals vibrant textures that translate the variations of light on the water and sand.
In Far Away, the Sea, Sophie Dumont captures the essence of a seascape in a subdued, almost suspended atmosphere. Through subtle overlays of oil, the artist creates an expansive horizon where sky and sea merge in a harmony of soft grays, sandy beiges, and grayish blues.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
