About this artwork
Sophie Dumont's "Sky and Sea in Normandy" invites the viewer to a peaceful contemplation of the Normandy coastline through a subtle palette of gray, blue, and ochre tones. The work, painted in oil on canvas, measures 57 x 68 cm framed. Choose your wood or black frame.
Sophie Dumont skillfully depicts a Normandy beach under a shadowy sky, capturing the calm and ever-changing essence of the coast. Shades of gray and blue create a soft, contemplative… atmosphere, evoking the changing nature of the sea and sky in this region. Touches of ochre add a subtle warmth, perhaps reminiscent of beach sand or the reflections of sunlight filtering through the clouds.
« To sublimate, to appropriate the subject, to keep only the essential. »
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
