About this artwork
Geometry of Silence is an oil on canvas created in 2026 by Sophie Dumont. This work marks an evolution towards a more structured and architectural style, where geometric forms interlock with precision to create a composition that is both stable and vibrant.
Rounded volumes, vertical planes, and interlocking structures compose a dense pictorial space, evoking both architectural fragments and suggested presences. The composition plays on a subtle… balance between rigor and fluidity, between construction and breath.
The palette, dominated by deep reds, ochres, muted greens, and nuanced blacks and whites, creates a warm and intimate atmosphere. The variations in texture, achieved through successive layers of oil paint, lend a tactile depth and a subtle vibration to the surface.
Through this work, Sophie Dumont continues her research around structure and memory.
« To sublimate, to appropriate the subject, to keep only the essential. »
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
