In this work entitled Buried Horizon, Sophie Dumont continues her exploration of the abstract landscape through a composition constructed by successive layers of matter and light.
The nuances of white, bluish-grey, brown earth, and deep red create a fragile and shifting horizon, evoking the traces left by time on the landscape. Executed in oil with multiple superimposed layers, the painting reveals a surface rich in textures, transparencies, and… erasures.
Between memory and abstraction, Horizon Enfoui invites us to slow down our gaze and explore the subtle variations of light that emerge from matter.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
