About this artwork
In this oil painting, I wanted to capture the intensity and chaos of a historical moment, blending realistic depiction with a hazy, vibrant quality that conveys emotion and urgency. Each face embodies the strength, hope, and tension of a struggle. In your home, this painting will bring a powerful energy, an invitation to reflect on the courage and human stories behind every conflict. Frances Green, Margaret Kirchner, Ann Waldner, Blanche Osbor, 1940-1945… World War II. Icons of women who, at the time, had to fight for the right to fly in the military, only achieved military status in 1977, and were decorated in 2009 by Barack Obama.
Sophie Pirot, a painter and engraver who graduated from the Arlon School of Fine Arts, works primarily in oil and printmaking, also exploring cyanotype. Her technique, inspired by the Flemish Primitives, favors layering, attention to light, and a slow, deliberate gesture, oscillating between appearance and disappearance. Her works, dominated by faces with a powerful presence, exude a tension between strength and fragility, questioning memory, forgetting, and identity, and conveying a melancholic lucidity, a silent presence that invites introspection and intimate resonance.
