About this artwork
The Reader is made from the trunk of tree from my parents' old house. It is inspired by my father who has always been a journalist - and him reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee is a core memory for me.
That being said I have left it up to the viewer to interpret what is being read, what is in the cup, and who "The reader" is. It is a very non-specific sculpture, so the inspiration is just where it started for me - not where it ended.
Besides… the inspiration from my father I was inspired by a simple shape from my small woodsculpture "In the eye of the beholder". The shape got completely stuck in my mind and I had to make it into something bigger - and this is bigger!

Stefan From-Møller is a self-taught artist who primarily works in wood sculpture and crochet, occasionally incorporating stone and metal, drawing deeply from personal transformation after a life-altering stroke. His intuitive technique embraces slow, attentive carving, allowing the intrinsic character of each piece of wood to guide both motif and process, resulting in both abstract and nature-inspired works. Through his art, he channels a journey of healing and mental health, awakening profound empathy and celebrating the hidden beauty within materials—and within ourselves.
