About this artwork
For many years, I've been photographing festivals and fairs throughout Germany, from the famous Bavarian Oktoberfest and Hamburg's DOOM to the Volksfest in Stuttgart and the KRANGES fair. They have a great tradition in Germany, perhaps even worldwide. Wherever I go, I look for these typical locations. I like the colors, the paintings, simply everything. I especially love the calm and quiet atmosphere before the big hustle and bustle begins, when…
everyone is so hungry for action and entertainment. I've taken hundreds of photos at these locations, from small candy stores to spooky ghost rides, from bumper cars to breakdancing fun. I shoot these images with my LINHOF 4x5 Master Technika and my favorite panoramic camera, the LINHOF Technorama 617. I use KODAK negatives with PORTRA 160.

Stefan Neubauer works primarily with large- and medium-format analogue photography, as well as special panoramic cameras, and develops his films in a professional lab. His technique is based on many years of experience, a focus on the subject and its surroundings, and a conscious avoidance of digital trends, giving his images a unique patina and grain. He works between reportage, portraits, architecture, and street life, always focusing on light, composition, and authenticity. His works convey a profound sense of calm, nostalgia, and a longing for lasting, unique moments.
