About this artwork
This work by Stefano Berardino is a tribute to the timeless allure of the Vespa, a symbol of freedom and Italian style. Created using a mixed media palette knife technique with sand and silver leaf details on jute canvas (40x50 cm), it depicts a 1965 Vespa 50 in vibrant red.
The light blue geometric background recalls vintage 1960s motifs, while the textured surfaces lend tactile depth and dynamism. The calligraphic writing next to the red number… emphasizes the connection between memory and modernity, in a balance between the roughness of the jute and the shine of the silver.
Part of the #ThatsMotoringArt collection, the Vespa subjects are linked to the solo exhibition #ThatsMotoringArt @Museo.Piaggio at the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera (PI). The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a copy of the book L'Arte dei Motori #ThatsMotoringArt®.
Stefano Berardino, a painter with a background in fine art and a passion for motors, uses mixed media on jute canvases enriched with sand and silver leaf, exploring visual worlds linked to automobiles, pop art, and bicycles. His style blends texture and color, creating dynamic surfaces and vibrant contrasts, interpreting iconic subjects with a contemporary twist. His works capture emotion, memory, and identity, transforming vehicles into enduring symbols of memories and lived moments.
