About this artwork
In this large painting the face of a sacred person stands out against a Pompeian red background. The Buddha appears mouthless, as if to underline his silence; from the center of the forehead a crack opens from which a green snake emerges. Under the left eye a pouch of skin seems to swell, perhaps full of the tears of the world. A large necklace adds an element of preciousness to the painting.
