About this artwork
As birds that specialize in nocturnal hunting, owls differ from other birds through specific anatomical features and their very typical shape. The body is stocky and the head, compared to other birds, is noticeably large and rounded. The beak of owls is strongly curved and sharp-edged. With their eyes, which are in a kind of ring, they can see spatially and estimate speeds. The eyes themselves are immobile; instead, the animals can turn their heads…
up to 270°. The owl shown is in a waiting position and has long since fixed its prey - so the highest respect for the prey animal! In this realistic oil painting I have captured the powerful charisma and haunting eyes of a proud bird. The warm tones and the gentle play of light and shadow give the work a lively energy.
