About this artwork
Hongi is a greeting ritual of the New Zealand natives, the Maori. Even if there are slightly different processes and different positions of the arms and hands in Hongi, all ceremonies have in common that in Hongi the noses are pressed together in order to feel the breath of the other person. The Hongi symbolizes the first breath of life between two people meeting.
