I wanted to highlight these ladies and give them the most prominent presence in the piece. The colours resemble the energy that was captured in the photo as well as giving some background detail through strobe lighting. I am an emotive creator who blends painting, poetry, emotion and shared experiences in various mediums, with a backbone of harnessing the deep rooted desire to pave a path for the future, for my daughter, just like my ancestors did for me.
Using a contemporary urban pop art style, I weave notable depth and texture through acrylics, chalk, oil pastels and spray paint, amid my own poetry and phrases.
I hope my paintings awaken profound emotions, unravelling layers of personal experiences, societal narratives, and ancestral legacies about resilient women, transmitting the poignant message of authenticity, light and love even in darkness and darkest of times.
