About this artwork
An original watercolour picture on Bockingford watercolour paper 90lbs.
This was created during the exciting times of England's attempts at the World Cup in 2018. At the time there was extraordinarily hot weather in early May, 2018. Attempting clear washes on paper during the heat was tricky.
A huge moon looms above the horizon, with hexagonal shapes to keep in the football mode.
A lone figure straddles a hill and is bathed in moonlight. Is this… a faithful football fan, still hopeful for victory.
Sadly England were piped to the post by Croatia.

I, Stephen Alpe, a self-taught watercolourist, started painting in watercolours back in 1986. Impressed by the artwork in ornithological books illustrated by artits such as David Reid-Henry. I strived to achieve the same level of excellence, but, where as, Reid Henry made it look like the subjects were about to fly off the page, my initial efforts looked like they had been carved out of stone!
I did, in time improve and was able to illustrate a few calendars and magazines.
On moving to the UK in 2007, I moved into painting landscapes and news items that caught my imagination. From 2012, I began to notice the works of the street artist Banksy. Other artists that I admire include Wassily Kadinski, Joan Miro and Pol Ledent.
