About this artwork
An original watercolour picture on Windsor & Newton Cotman NOT 140lbs art paper.
Set against a dark marbled background, a brown and yellow wooden frame, provide a window onto a skyline.
A clear blue sky provide the buildings with lots of light. It has a David Hockney feel to it. The tallest office block on the right side, may be a bank, or insurance company. a motif of what may represent an anchor, balances on the side.
The darker earth coloured… building immediately behind, has plants on the roof to provide habitat for small wildlife.
It may appear lifeless, but business is frantic behind the glass and panels of the structures.
A pleasant small city view to enjoy.

I, Stephen Alpe, a self-taught watercolourist, started painting in watercolours back in 1986. Impressed by the artwork in ornithological books illustrated by artits such as David Reid-Henry. I strived to achieve the same level of excellence, but, where as, Reid Henry made it look like the subjects were about to fly off the page, my initial efforts looked like they had been carved out of stone!
I did, in time improve and was able to illustrate a few calendars and magazines.
On moving to the UK in 2007, I moved into painting landscapes and news items that caught my imagination. From 2012, I began to notice the works of the street artist Banksy. Other artists that I admire include Wassily Kadinski, Joan Miro and Pol Ledent.
