About this artwork
From the Divining the Space Series
This series started as an experiment of toning down the color on some of the shapes in the composition. Doing this accentuated the color shapes giving them movement on the canvas. The toned down shapes also give an added interest to the piece as they are more than just negative space.
Oil paint, cold wax medium and marble dust on gallery wrapped canvas

« Color remains a constantly unfolding mystery. »
Stephen Cimini is an exciting American painter with national exhibition experience. The vocabulary for his current work originates from the linear landscape of Manhattan. It explores geometric spaces and their relationships to each other, and also engages a fascination with the mystery of color. Cimini refers to his compositions as 'random symmetry' - works that have no discernible pattern but nonetheless create a sense of balance, order and clarity.
